Lorri is the president and founder of Sensory Pathways. She has been working in the medical field since 1985 developing her skills through nursing in the community and the United States Navy. Upon completion of her service in the Navy, she began her studies in the field of Occupational Therapy, where her interest in working with children blossomed into a passion.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri, her work with children involved settings such as schools, outpatient and inpatient facilities, patient homes, and psychiatric settings. A large portion of her practice is dedicated to working with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD/ADD. Patient ages range from newborn to adult. She is diligent in her research and implementation of the latest information and therapeutic techniques that specifically target the needs of her clients. She is a strong advocate of parent education, encourages families to ask questions and to be very involved in their child’s therapy. She incorporates specialized skills including training in sensory integration, Therapeutic Listening, motor learning principles, Handwriting Without Tears, Interactive Metronome, Beckman Oral Motor, NDT and motor learning.
Lorain is well-known for her excellence in the physical therapy field, and has been providing patients with outstanding Physical Therapy for 32 years. She believes the key to a successful outcome is a thorough evaluation. Her vast knowledge and understanding of the human body has enabled her to provide outstanding physical therapy to her patients. After earning her Bachelor’s degree from The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah in 1974, the first 16 years of her career were spent concentrating her practice in the area of pediatrics, including early intervention, and working in the public school system in Harrison County, Mississippi. She continued her education and achieved her Masters in Health Sciences from Louisiana State University Medical Center in 1997.
Lorain has extensive experience in a variety of settings including orthopedics, pain management, acute care, and brain injury rehabilitation. She is certified in Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) of adult hemiplegia and is a Registered Therapeutic Horseback Riding Instructor. Lorain has attended many courses in manual therapy including McKenzie, Strain/Counterstrain, Feldenkrais, Duffy-Rath, Cranial Sacral Therapy and Mulligan Manual Therapy techniques.
